I'm With the Band

This is my rad sixties motown girl group band called Rita and the Rhinestones. I like to think that they moonlight as jewel theives. They used to do it full time but, y'know, they've got a life in the spotlight now.

I added my preliminary character sketches at the end here - the finals ended up being a mix between the middle row of characters and the set on the far right. The latter were my first choice, having been inspired by Barbarella, but the costume aspect of it felt a little too over-the-top for what they were supposed to be.

Lion Policeman

A random animal-profession prompt in my Character Design class. I am getting pretty good at this drawing-big-cats thing...

Bill Nighy

...is my all-time favorite actor and quite possibly the coolest man in the galaxy.

Intergalactic Throwdown Chef!

An 'adventurer' character and some props made for my Character Design class. I would imagine her to be a pretty blustery and unapologetically victorious little kid because she is DAMN GOOD; when your opponent has automatic salt and fresh pepper grinders built into her forearm gizmos you know it's business time. Her adventures consist of hitchhiking from galaxy to galaxy challenging all manner of alien species to throwdowns of the edible kind. I'm going to keep working with her and other characters in her story throughout the semester so there will be more to come!

Props

Some concept props for an imaginary video game based off of the Lion King... in spaaaaaace! Looking back I wish I had drawn more tables. Oddly enough I got most of my table inspiration from Firefly - I had never looked too closely at the props in that show, and now it's all I can do whenever I watch it. Especially the tables, because they are damn gorgeous.

The Jungle Book

Mowgli defends himself from the rats - er, wolves! I mean wolves.

This one needs a bit of work still, but if I don't post it now I never will! I hope ya'll enjoy the derpy man-monkeys as much as I do.

I get the feeling I will forever be doing illustrations of The Jungle Book, and for a good reason - it's an amazing story. Hopefully this means I will also get better at drawing animals that look like the animals they're supposed to be. Practice practice practice!

Buried Alive!

For an assignment based off of a Reader's Digest story about - you guessed it - being buried alive.

Upgrade

An editorial piece for the theme "Getting an Upgrade". If I owned moonboots, I would probably never wear them and then tunneling spiders would build nests in them and I would have to shop-vac them out.

I still want some though.

Pigeon Portrait

A face made out of pigeons, of course. It's a doofy, barely-distinguishable face, but a face nonetheless.

Doppelganger

One of my few forays into actual digital painting last semester. Also contains some of my favorite subjects and themes: doppelgangers and mild creepiness!

Twins

Inspired by a trip to the aquarium as well as the belief that ALL children - not just the inevitable evil twin - are diabolical.

Totes

Some Whole Foods reusable tote designs, because why not? I have always wanted to design one of those! Also wanted to try my hand (again) at repeating patterns. I am super excited to say that it went better than every other previous attempt.
